Participation at the Applied Statistics 2025 Conference

Luka Štrlekar, a member of the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI), and Andrea Ivanovska attended the 21st International Conference Applied Statistics 2025, held from September 21 to 23 at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies in Koper.

Luka Štrlekar, in co-authorship with Prof. Dr. Vasja Vehovar, presented the paper Evaluating Web Survey Response Times: Determining the Actual Response Speed. The paper addresses the issue of response times, which are often used to assess the response quality in web surveys. However, for accurate evaluation, it is necessary to eliminate effects of confounding factors (e.g., pauses, multitasking, skipping questions), which enables the calculation of the “actual response speed”.

Andrea Ivanovska, in co-authorship with Prof. Dr. Michael Bosnjak and Prof. Dr. Vasja Vehovar, presented the paper Evaluating Data Quality in Probability-Based Online Panels: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. The paper presents the results of a comprehensive meta-analysis, which showed that estimates from probability-based online panels often exhibit considerable relative bias compared to benchmark values, especially for questions on sensitive topics.

The annual Applied Statistics conference is the central national event in the field of statistics, bringing together researchers and experts from around the world working in data analysis, data science, and statistics to present their latest research and exchange experiences.
