Researchers at the Centre for Social Informatics (Dr. Andraž Petrovčič, Dr. Darja Grošelj and Dr. Katja Prevodnik), in collaboration with Dr. Bianca C. Reisdorf (The University of North Carolina at Charlotte), have published an original scientific article "A typology of aging internet users: Exploring digital gradations in internet skills and uses" in the journal Social Science Computer Review. The study deals with understanding the heterogeneity of internet uses and skills among older internet users, with a particular focus on the relationship between different forms of digital engagement and social inequalities among older users. Although this is the first study of its kind in Slovenia, it has wider relevance for digital inequalities research field, as its results suggests that higher levels of internet skills do not always result in a wider array of internet uses – a finding which may be explained by the involvement of older users in different forms of proxy internet use.
The study was supported by the Slovenian Research Agency - ARRS (Grant nos. BI-US/22-24-055, J5-2558, P5-0399, Z5-8234).
