CSI Researchers on Ageism at the 3rd National Public Health Conference
Researchers from the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) participated in the 3rd National Public Health Conference, titled “Public Health – A Bridge to Better Health and Community Resilience”, organized by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). The conference took place on September 30 and October 1 in Portorož.
CSI members Dr. Simona Hvalič Touzery, Mojca Šetinc, and Jerneja Laznik presented a poster entitled Aging in the Shadow of Ageism: A Study among Nurses and Nursing Students, in which they highlighted the presence of (technology-based) ageism among Slovenian nursing students and registered nurses. As this phenomenon is particularly problematic in the context of the growing digitalization of healthcare, the authors emphasized the importance of educational approaches that, in addition to technical skills, also foster critical reflection on stereotypes and prejudices. Such a comprehensive approach could contribute to reducing ageism and, in the long run, improve health outcomes and the quality of care for older adults.
The research was funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (P5-0399, J5-4578).
