CSI Members at the ESRA 2025 Conference: Presentations on Survey Methodology and Information Privacy

Researchers from the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) took part in the 11th European Survey Research Association (ESRA) Conference, held at Utrecht University from 14 to 18 July 2025. CSI organized four sessions and presented five papers related to survey methodology and information privacy on the internet.

A thematic stream on Optimizing Probability-Based Web Panel Performance (organized by Vasja Vehovar, Gregor Čehovin, and Andreja Praček) was accepted for three sessions due to high interest (see links 1, 2, and 3). Additionally, Jošt Bartol, Andraž Petrovčič, and Vasja Vehovar organized a session on Methodological Aspects of Privacy Measurement in Surveys.

CSI members also presented the following papers. Several presentations drew on data from the 1KA panel, Slovenia’s first continuous probability-based web panel.

  1. Jošt Bartol, Vasja Vehovar, Andraž Petrovčič: Question-order effects in survey measurement of online privacy perceptions: Examining the influence of contexts and actors
  2. Gregor Čehovin, Vasja Vehovar, Andreja Praček, Luka Štrlekar, Andrea Ivanovska: Assessing bias in survey estimates: Comparing probability-based and nonprobability web panels to traditional probability-based surveys
  3. Andrea Ivanovska, Vasja Vehovar: Relative biases in probability-based web survey panels: Research synthesis
  4. Andreja Praček, Gregor Čehovin, Vasja Vehovar: Balancing costs and errors in probability-based survey recruitment: Lessons from a web panel experiment
  5. Luka Štrlekar, Vasja Vehovar: How long does it take to complete a web survey: Calculating the actual response speed as a quality assurance indicator

The presentations and sessions enabled productive exchange between academic, governmental, and commercial researchers.

Held biennially, ESRA is Europe’s key forum for survey methodologists. The 2025 international conference focused on new data sources and formats, with a program spanning methodological innovation, applied research, and early-career development (see full ESRA 2025 program).
