CSI hosted Prof. Mick Couper from the University of Michigan

In December, the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) hosted Prof. Mick Couper from the Institute for Social Research of the University of Michigan. Prof. Couper is one of the leading experts in web survey methodology and the author of several books and numerous influential scientific papers in this field.

The main purpose of the visit was a working meeting between Prof. Couper and researchers involved in the ‘Integration of mobile devices into survey research in social sciences’ project. The participants discussed research designs to study the key issues in the development of mobile web surveys. They also agreed on future research cooperation on this topic. Part of the visit was devoted to an meeting of experts, including researchers from the CSI, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and the National Public Health Institute. Prof. Couper presented several studies related to the combining of survey data with automatically collected data from mobile phones and other devices. The presentation was followed by a discussion, during which the participants exchanged their experiences and discussed issues encountered with such data collection in their research work.
