Micro-workshop on ICT & Ageing

On November 22, 2019, as part of the bilateral agreement between the Center for Social Informatics, UL FSS and Florida State University, a micro-workshop on information and communication technologies and ageing was held. As part of the workshop prof. Walter R. Boot, PhD, of Florida State University conducted a guest lecture entitled The Potential of Video Games to Benefit Older Adults.

COOP4HEALTHCARE project partner meeting

The COOP4HEALTHCARE Interreg SI-AT project, of which the research team of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, Centre for Social Informatics is part of, is moving into the last period of its operation. Thus, on November 15, 2019, the leading partner in the project, the University of Carinthia (CUAS, Austria), organized the first part of the closing meetings of the project partners.

Poster presentations on the Smart Living Forum in Austria

The Smart Living Forum 2019 took place on the 14th of November in Villach, Austria. The results of two intervention studies were presented at the event by members of Center for Social Informatics. Dr Simona Hvalič Touzery presented the results of the study that aimed to identify positive and negative psychological outcomes of telecare use on working family carers of older people. Dr Katja Prevodnik presented the preliminary results of the study that explored how the usability and acceptability – two dimensions of user experience (UX) – of a home telehealth system (THS) shape patients’ perceptions of its impact on their functional independence, well-being and quality of life.

Dr. Gregor Čehovin and dr. Katja Lozar Manfreda Receive ARRS Award Excellent in Science 2019

For their scientific contribution in the field of survey methodology and meta-analysis, Dr. Gregor Čehovin and dr. Katja Lozar Manfreda (CSI) received the award “Excellent in Science 2019: Most Outstanding Research Achievements in Inspiration to the Younger Generation” in the field of social sciences and humanities. The award Excellent in Science was presented by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) as part of the event "ARRS Day 2019: We Support Excellence", which was held on Tuesday, 19 November 2019 at the Grand Hotel Union.

Academic visit of dr. Vesna Dolničar in Austria

Dr. Vesna Dolničar has been visiting the University of Applied Sciences in Kaernten, Austria, between August and October 2019, for a 3 month academic visit. The collaboration took place within the COOP4HEALTHCARE project. On the 6th of August, she was a guest at the kick-off meeting in Klagenfurt, where an introduction presentation has been prepared with the partners of the visit and a detailed plan of cooperation for the three months has been agreed.

A new article published in IEEE Access

Mobile and ubiquitous technologies represent a huge opportunity for an empowered inclusion of older adults in digital societies. Nevertheless, many of smart technologies demand high level of digital literacy and skills in order to become fully operational for the end-users. In order to study and design effective interventions aimed to increase the engagement of older adults with smart and mobile technologies, valid measurement tools for assessment of users’ skills are needed.

Young researcher Natalia Rebrica, who joined the Center for Social Informatics in October 2019, attended the CREATE “Designing for Older Adults” workshop. The workshop was held at Well Cornell Medicine - Center on Aging and Behavioral Research, 21-22 October 2019.

Insafe network meeting in Ljubljana

Awareness centre Safe.si, which is part of Safer Internet Center hosted on 23rd and 24th October more than ninety Insafe network members from across Europe that work on raising awareness of the safe use of the Internet. The main topic of the meeting was artificial intelligence.

Dr. Gregor Čehovin Attended a Bilateral Meeting with Israeli Partners on the Topic of Digital Transformation of Quantitative Data Collection

Dr. Gregor Čehovin (CSI) attended a bilateral meeting from 27 to 29 October 2019 in Haifa, Israel for the purpose of cooperation on the bilateral project "Digital transformation of quantitative data collection in social science research: Integrating survey data collection with big data and paradata for identifying social behaviour". The meeting took place between Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) and The Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research (SNI), Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel.
