Bilateral meeting with Israeli partners on the topic of digital transformation of quantitative data collection

A series of meetings was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences from May 29 to June 4 between Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) and The Samuel Neaman Institute for National Policy Research (SNI), University of Haifa, Israel, for the purpose of cooperation on the bilateral project "Digital transformation of quantitative data collection in social science research: Integrating survey data collection with big data and paradata for identifying social behaviour".

Video of the guest lecture by Yael Oppenheim on the Buzzilla platform for social network analysis

On Friday, May 31, 2019, the Centre for Social Informatics hosted Yael Oppenheim from the University of Haifa. Yael is an expert in marketing and social and digital analytics for qualitative and quantitative research. She is also the founder of the FitMyTime platform, which offers digital support for fitness and yoga users.

CSI members attended the AAPOR 74th Annual Conference

Asist. Miha Matjašič, Gregor Čehovin, PhD and Jernej Berzelak, PhD from the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) attended the American Association for Public Opinion Research’s (AAPOR) 74st Annual Conference. The conference took place in Toronto, Canada, from 16th to 19th May 2019. This is one of the main global symposia in the field of survey methodology and survey public opinion.

Interactive poster at 69th Annual ICA conference

Andraž Petrovčič, PhD attended The 69th Annual International Communication Association Conference, held in Washington, DC, between 24th and 28th May 2019. In the Communication and Technology Interactive Poster Session he presented the study entitled “A Cross-Sectional Study Comparing the Role of Intergenerational Family Ties in Internet Non-Users’ Access to Online Services in 2009 and 2018”.

New article: Predictors of Seniors’ Interest in Assistive Applications on Smartphones

Dr. Andraž Petrovčič and Dr. Vesna Dolničar (co-authored by Dr. Sebatiaan Peek, University of Tilburg) published the article “Predictors of Seniors’ Interest in Assistive Applications on Smartphones: Evidence from a Population-Based Survey in Slovenia”. It has been published with the financial support of the Slovenian Research Agency and belongs to a special issue “Quality of Life: The Interplay between Human Behaviour, Technology and the Environment” in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Guest lectures of prof. dr. Michael Bosnjak from ZPID, University of Trier

Centre for Social Informatics (CDI) hosted prof. dr. Michael Bosnjak (director of ZPID - Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information and Full Professor at the University of Trier) on April 17 and 18 in cooperation with University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. Prof. Bosnjak gave a series of lectures on meta-analysis within the course New developments in statistics (University of Ljubljana’s interdisciplinary doctoral program of Statistics). New scientific publication »Psychological outcomes of eCare technologies use for informal carers: A scoping study«

Kaja Smole Orehek, assist. prof. Simona Hvalič Touzery, PhD, assist. prof. Andraž Petrovčič, PhD, assoc. prof. Vesna Dolničar, PhD (University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, Centre for Social Informatics), and assoc. prof. Matjaž Debevc, PhD, and assist. prof. Ines Kožuh, PhD (University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engeneering and Computer Science) are co-authors of a scientific article, titled »Psychological outcomes of eCare technologies use for informal carers: A scoping study« and is available in Gerontechnology Journal.

Visit at the University of Salerno

Doc. dr. Andraž Petrovčič from the Centre for Social Informatics at Faculty of Social Sciences was, by invitation of prof. dr. Maria Prosperina Vitale, a guest at University of Salerno from 10th to 13th March 2019. There, he prepared a lecture for postgraduate students at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences entitled »Personal and Contextual factors of proxy internet use among older adults: Has a decade of Internet usage growth changed the role of intergenerational family ties?«.

i-evAALution consortium meeting in Bolzano

A two-day i-evAALution consortium meeting (AAL project) took place on March 28 and 29, 2019 in Bolzano, Italy, along the important milestones of the project. The integration and development of the i-evAALution bundle is in its final phase, and a heuristic evaluation of the bundle is planned.
