Challenges on the Path to a Doctorate - Interview with assoc. prof. dr. Luka Kronegger in the newspaper Delo

Assoc. prof. dr. Luka Kronegger presents some key findings from a three-year research project titled "Mentorship Relationship in the Context of Scientific Collaboration and Knowledge Production" in the article. One of the project's goals is also the development and formulation of recommendations for establishing and maintaining quality collaboration between doctoral students and mentors.

The research project is based on a mixed-method approach and includes data collection methods such as interviews, bibliometric analyses, and questionnaires. Researchers have identified four main types of mentors: the manager, the parental mentor, the collegial mentor, and the formal mentor. Each type has its own characteristics and approaches to mentoring, which vary in terms of the level of personal involvement, support, and expectations. It is important for mentors to establish a relationship of trust, respect, and active participation, enabling discussions, exchange of ideas, and mutual professional support. Researchers have also focused on what are the (un)desirable qualities of doctoral students according to mentors. They highlighted the desire for particularly independent and proactive doctoral students. The study also emphasizes the importance of financial support and material provision for students during their doctoral studies.
