The CEEISA-ISA Conference on The Politics of International Relations Hosted by CIR
Between 23 and 25 June 2016 the Centre of International Relations (CIR) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, hosted approximately 400 researchers and academics from around the World, who met in Ljubljana to discuss politics of international relations at the CEEISA-ISA joint conference.
During the three conference days and in over 100 panels and roundtables scholars attending the conference, which was co-organised by the Centre of International Relations (CIR), the Central and East European International Studies (CEEISA) and the International Studies Association (ISA), discussed the most current findings and issues from the field of international relations politics (including international conflict management, migration, international law and economy, foreign and security policy, various political systems, intercultural differences and international communication).
One of the highlights of the event was a keynote address on politicization of international relations by prof. Michael Zürn, followed by a welcome reception also hosted by the Centre of International Relations. At the latter conference participants were greeted by prof. dr. Rado Bohinc, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Stefano Guzzini, CEEISA president, Mark Boyer, ISA executive director, and one of the two conference program chairs – Wolfgang Martin Wagner (the other chair was Glenn Palmer).
In his speech, the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences stressed that both the Faculty of Social Sciences and its Centre of International Relations, which gathers 17 first-class researchers (including the head of CIR, prof. dr. Maja Bučar), are very much engaged in and connected with international scientific networks. As an important hub of Central and East European studies CIR is also one of the two CEEISA founding members. Together with Palgrave it moreover issues the Journal of International Relations and Development (JIRD) – a highly ranked scientific journal. The dean also emphasised that co-organising and hosting such an established conference is both an honour and a confirmation of the excellent work by the Faculty and the Centre in the past as well as an exceptional opportunity for further internationalisation and international networking of the two institutions.
