New Publication: Paper about Digital Representation of Young People in Global Governance (Authors: Nadine Benedix and Ajda Hedžet)

A new article about digital representation in global governance by Nadine Benedix (Technische Universität Darmstadt) and Ajda Hedžet (Centre of International Relations, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences) explores how young people navigate limited political participation in international organizations (IOs).

Drawing from the cases of young migrants and transnationally organized working children, the authors analyze how these actors use social media platforms to assert their political agency and challenge restrictive representations. The article reveals that despite IOs’ attempts to be more inclusive, access to policy debates remains constrained, largely due to the ambivalence in representing youth subjectivity: these actors are framed as especially vulnerable yet denied full political agency. Through social media practices, young migrants and working children, however, engage in aesthetic reversal, contesting their portrayal by IOs and reclaiming their political subjecthood.

The article is published in the Globalizations journal. You can read it here.
