New Publication: An Article about the EU’s Impact on the Ontological Security of EU Candidate Countries (Author: Aleksandar Jekić)
Ontological security theory postulates that states, as individuals, have the necessity for a continuous and stable Self (termed ontological security). Building on this assumption, junior researcher at CIR Aleksandar Jekić published an article that explores the EU’s impact on the ontological security of EU candidate countries. By examining the EU accession process of North Macedonia, he shows that the EU, depending on the credibility of the membership perspective, can both act as a provider and depriver of ontological security. The article contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between ontological security-seeking and provision and is published in the Journal of Regional Security.
