New Publication: A Paper on Planning for Renewable Energy without Conflict (Authors: Jerneja Penca, Danijel Crnčec and Marko Lovec)
Expanding renewable energy is crucial but must balance other priorities like biodiversity, water management, cultural heritage, and public health, while involving the public. The study Planning for renewable energy without conflict: the potential of using sensitivity mapping as a decision-support tool, authored by dr. Jerneja Penca (Science and Research Centre Koper), assist. prof. dr. Danijel Crnčec and assoc. prof. dr. Marko Lovec (both CIR at FDV UL) highlights sensitivity mapping as a tool to integrate diverse concerns into renewable energy planning. Using Slovenia as a case study, it shows that sensitivity mapping can identify significant potential for conflict-free renewable energy development. However, it also reveals limits to expansion without affecting protection regimes and challenges of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The paper is published in the Journal of Environmental Policy & Planning in open access.
It was prepared as part of the project J5-2562 – Norm transfer in the EU and Slovenia – evaluating environmental and sustainability transformation.
