New Impact Factor for the Journal of International Relations and Development

The Journal of International Relations and Development (JIRD), founded by the Centre of International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, and co-owned by the Centre of International Relations and Springer Nature, achieved a significant new milestone in 2025. As the official journal of the Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA), JIRD continues to enhance its international standing and visibility as a leading outlet for scholarship in the field of international relations.

According to the 2025 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), JIRD achieved a Journal Impact Factor of 3.4. This represents the highest impact factor in the journal's history since its inclusion in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).

These results place the journal:

  • 20th out of 173 journals in the International Relations category, ranking it in the first quartile (Q1);
  • 50th out of 332 journals in the Political Science category, also placing it in the first quartile (Q1).

This achievement further confirms JIRD's position among the leading scholarly journals in the fields of international relations and international political economy. Since its establishment in 1984, the journal has published original, peer-reviewed research that combines theoretical innovation, conceptual sophistication, and rigorous empirical analysis.

In 2025, the journal also entered a new editorial phase. The editorial team is led by Editors-in-Chief Dagmar Vorlíček(University of Vienna), Matthias Leese (ETH Zurich), and Ajda Hedžet (University of Ljubljana). The Associate Editors are Michal Kolmaš (Metropolitan University Prague), Marko Lovec (University of Ljubljana), Monika Brusenbauch Meislová (Masaryk University), Michal Onderco (Erasmus University Rotterdam), Birgit Poopuu (Tallinn University), and Florian Weiler (Central European University). Melika Mahmutović (University of Ljubljana) serves as Managing Editor.

The new editorial team builds on the accomplishments of previous editorial teams whose work over the past decades has been instrumental in strengthening the journal's international reputation and scholarly excellence. The journal's strong performance across both disciplinary rankings reflects the success of these collective efforts and reinforces JIRD's standing as a leading journal in the field of International Relations.
