CIR contributions to the Palgrave Geopolitical Atlas
CIR members Ana Bojinović Fenko, Faris Kočan and Jure Požgan published two insightful chapters on Kosovo and Republika Srpska in the Palgrave Geopolitical Atlas.
The chapter on Kosovo, written by Jure Požgan, analyses Kosovo as a quasi-state navigating the complexities of great power politics. It highlights how great powers shape Kosovo's international status, with the US and the EU advancing recognition, while Russia and other non-Western actors resist to challenge Western influence. In the context of limited recognition, Kosovo pursues “hybrid diplomacy” through functional participation in international organizations, gradually consolidating its statehood.

The chapter on Republika Srpska (RS), authored by Faris Kočan, Ana Bojinović Fenko and Jure Požgan, explores RS’s contested position within Bosnia and Herzegovina and its strategic significance to China, the EU, the Russian Federation, the US, as well as Serbia and Hungary. It shows how RS relies on paradiplomacy, selective alignment, and strategic hedging to preserve autonomy, secure economic resources, and pursue long-term political objectives, including potential independence.
