Like previous SJM surveys, this one utilises a standardised questionnaire form and a probability sample of the adult inhabitants of Slovenia. The SJM consisted of three content areas (surveys): a) a longitudinal part of the standard SJM questions (Public Opinion Mirror) (P5-0151), b) International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) modul "Citizenship and National Identity (P5-0151), and c) Survey on national and international security issues and the military profession (P5-0206).
The SJM part ("The Mirror of Public Opinion") covers mainly the following topics: satisfaction with different aspects of life (including self-assessment of health, assessment of household material situation), interpersonal trust, assessment of the selected social subsystems, attitudes towards democracy, trust in institutions and value orientations. These questions are part of the longitudinal block of the SJM survey. Additionally, the following topics and modules were included in the questionnaire: questions about environmental problems and extreme environmental events (consequences and personal vulnerability)
The questionnaire also contains two specific content blocks. The first block is the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) Citizenship and National Identity module. It is a longitudinal series of questions measuring attitudes and values related to citizenship, national identity, patriotism, sense of belonging, the meaning of citizenship rights and duties, and the elements that determine national identity (place of birth, language proficiency, cultural affiliation, etc.). This block also measures the level of trust in state institutions. The main objective of the module is to explore the perception of one's identity in the context of national belonging and how this influences other attitudinal and value definitions of the individual.
Another specific set of questions relates to the survey on national and international security. This is a set of questions dealing with the topic of national security and security policy, personal perceptions of different types of threat and an assessment of conflict hotspots around the world. The questions also focus on opinions on the country's participation in international missions and the role that the Slovenian Armed Forces should play in this. It also explores public attitudes towards the military profession and the tasks that the Slovenian Armed Forces should perform within their competences. Special attention is also paid to the effectiveness of the response of national institutions to natural disasters, examining what the role of the military should be in such situations.
Like all SJM surveys, it includes a wide range of demographic questions (from gender and age to household composition, employment, occupational status, income, etc.).
