Miha Hribernik


Miha holds an MSc in International Security from the University of Bristol and a BA in International Relations from the University of Ljubljana. He is a Senior Consultant at Verisk Maplecroft, based in Beijing. Miha has substantial experience with above-ground risk analysis for clients in the oil and gas, mining, and financial sectors. This includes providing political risk and macroeconomic analysis, as well as in-person briefings, presentations, training, stakeholder reports and other bespoke content.

His analysis regularly features on TV and in print, and has been featured in outlets including BBC World News, Bloomberg, CNBC, and USA Today. Miha has also authored over two dozen external articles and research papers, in publications such as The Diplomat, The National Interest, The Philippine Political Science Journal, PacNet, the Asia Pacific Bulletin, and Issues and Insights.

In addition to his role at Verisk Maplecroft, Miha holds a non-resident research fellowship at Pacific Forum CSIS. As a fellow, he has authored two major research papers to date, with a focus on Japanese security policy. He presented his research during a week-long speaking tour of Japan in October 2016, which took him to Tokyo, Naha, Fukuoka and Osaka.

Miha joined the EARL’s International Research Unit in December 2017.
