Short content

This course examines political institutions, processes and actors from the perspective of political sociology, which aims to explain political phenomena in terms of social and political factors. The course will begin by introducing the concept of power. By drawing on contrasting perspectives from classical and contemporary theories we will provide the answer to the question Who rules? We then take a more detailed look at the development of modern state, which includes centralization of political power, development of differentiated and centralized administrative apparatus, formation of nation state and the emergence of social state. We conclude this historical overview with the analysis of different forms of citizenship.
