The course will deal with economic, political, and military-defence institutions in Europe. The first part begins with a historical overview of the rise of Europe-specific institutions. This is followed by the analysis of development and the role of the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Free Trade Association. The analysis of individual organizations and institutions will cover issues concerning their membership, the internal structure of these organisations, the internal structure, decision-making processes and their importance in the context of European economic and political cooperation.
