Consumer culture will be placed within the context of the process of social modernization and in the framework of historical development of capitalism. In the second part, the role of commodities and consumer practices in everyday life and in culture at large will be addressed. We will give particular attention to consumption's role in the construction of social and cultural identities and to phenomena such as brands and branding and mediatization of consumption.
