Short content

The course introduces basic and more recent notions and discussions of religion in contemporary society with reference to theories of religion and society drawn from the science of religion (sociology of religion, history of religion, and comparative religion). Following discussions of classical and contemporary theories of religion and society, religion and secularization (and de-secularization), religion and individualization, the course focuses on the post 9/11 discussions of religion and state, religion and politics, religion in the public sphere, religion and (human rights) law, religion and media, and religion in education.
