Short content
The course is focused on development of the concept of representation and characteristics of the representation (different models of representation) and democracy. Especially challenges the both have been facing are exposed. Such challenges are, for example, descripitive vs substantive representation, democratic deficit on different levels, criticism of functioning of parties in modern representative democracies, characteristics of roles and functions of MPs on the national as well as the supranational levels.
Special attention will be devoted to promotion of democracy and its traps, and to a role the EU has played in promotion of democracy.
A problem of establishing and breakdown/failure of democracies will be aknowledged and analysed as well.
