Short content

The course presents the most important approaches to study of films. These include analysis of institutional contexts of film industry, film language, alternatives to classic Hollywood narrative (art film, feminist counter-cinematography, third film etc.), ideologies in film as well as various axes around which the meanings of film are usually structured (film genres, stars, auteurs etc.). The course also presents the key frameworks for film analysis in wider theoretical frameworks (auteur structuralism, post-structuralism, Deleuze, psychoanalysis, feminism etc.). At the seminar, students learn how to shoot and edit their own (short) films.
