Short content
The purpose of the course is to acquaint the students with the analysis and understanding of the social conditionality of economic phenomena. We will present concepts that apply sociological perspective (and tradition) in the analysis of contemporary economic developments. Theoretical and methodological content will be linked to the analysis of the current social and economic trends and events, such as ownership and economic changes, the introduction of the common European currency, the functioning of financial markets and the disproportionate economic power-sharing between women and men. The central themes: economic sociology at the turn of the 20th into the 21st century; comparison of the economic and sociological methodological approach; trust and cooperation in economic life; redefinition of capital in economic life (the importance of social capital); social construction and ranking of economic institutions (money market, ownership); companies (change, environment, network relations within and between organizations); globalization (division of power between and within countries); gender structure of economic life; socio-economic changes in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.
