Short content
Social problems are presented in their social context and through sociological approaches to their analysis. Students will learn about different social theories that interpret social problems differently. Different ways of addressing social problems will be presented; structural and individual factors linked to social problems will be analysed; as well as analytical process of recognition and responses to social problem will be addressed along with the role of different actors in this process. The role of various actors in definition and recognition of problems will be discussed, especially role of media, public opinion. Specific social problems will be analysed in more detail. Based on specific examples students will learn about the role of research in social problems, applicative and critical research, selection of research methods.
