The topics covered include: -The early phase of the EU: trade integration -Basic international trade theories (Law of comparative advantage, Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson theory, New trade theory, New-new trade theory, theory of economic integration, analysis of tariffs) -The Single European Act and the effects of free movement of persons, capital, goods and services within the EU -Basic theories of factor movements (migration theories and capital movement theories) -Innovation and technological development in the EU -The Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) -The theory of Optimal Currency Areas (OCA): is the EU an OCA? -Monetary policy in the EU and the Eurozone -EU budget -European fiscal policy and EU economic governance
