Short content
We explore phenomenon of various disasters that bring about ever more complex consequences and demand coordinated response of different institutions, bodies and organizations that are involved in disaster management at the national and often also at the international level. The teaching on disasters is based upon general theory and concepts of crisis and crisis management. We explore security, political, legal, administrative, economic, social, psychological, organizational and communicational aspects of disasters. The key topics of the course are: definition and classification of disasters, disasters as security threat, disaster management, communication process during disaster, disaster protection and relief system of Slovenia, empirical analysis of selected disasters (the analysis is based upon cognitive-institutional approach), psychological and social aspects of disasters, the role of the military in disaster response, evacuation in case of nuclear disaster. Civil protection in international humanitarian law (Additional Protocol I of 1977 to Geneva Conventions of 1949).
