This course will cover various questions and specification issues in multivariate quantitative data analysis and is designed for students who already have training in basic statistics and knowledge of research methods. The course combines a more theoretical introduction into different topics with practical analysis of diverse data sets using SPSS. In the first part we will discus the concepts of social meassurement and properties of the variables and constraints associated with them in the choice of techniques of analysis, synthesis and measures of variability. Participants will learn how to deal with the theoretical and methodological characteristic od social indicators.
In the second part we will practise the
use of multivariate data analysis in sociological research such as:
- structures (factor analysis, cluster analysis);
- measurement scales (factor analysis);
- causal relations and models (multiple linear regression, logistic regression, analysis of variance)
