Short content

Usage of the following research issues on cases and topics relevant for Journalism Studies. Basic methodological principles/paradigms (positivist, interpretative, critical, postmodern paradigms), research designs and processes in qualitative and quantitative research, ethics in scientific research, sampling. Quantitative research designs – overview and comparison: survey, content analysis (text), secondary analysis, experiment. Structure and steps in quantitative study: research topic (theory, conceptualization, hypotheses, variables), causality, measurement (data collection, measurement instruments, survey, measurement scales); principles and methods of quality of research process and outcomes. Qualitative research designs: filed work (logic of fieldwork, selection and access to field, role of researcher in the field), basic research and data collection strategies (participant observation, interviews, focus groups, case study). Data analysis for qualitative data (coding, analytical strategies), principles and strategies for quality in qualitative research, programs for data analysis of qualitative data (Atlas, Nvivo). Research designs for mixed methods research. Preparing research design for master thesis.
