Short content

The basics of comparative research: goals, cases and variables in comparative research; various levels of analysis, units of observation and units of analysis (comparisons); The logic of comparative analysis: revealing on differences (and similarities); the most similar systems design and the most different systems design, causality in frame of comparative research, experimental logics, necessary and sufficient conditions, causal complexity. Qualitative comparative analysis (QCA): QCA as ‘configurative’ method, various types of the QCA method (csQCA, mvQCA and fsQCA), applications of the QCA in social sciences; software packages for the QCA. Inter-national/cross-cultural comparative research: country as a unit of comparison, problem of equivalence, international social surveys, the role of data archives and secondary analysis, examples of international social surveys (ISSP, ESS etc.), methods for data analysis in frame of inter-national / cross—cultural comparative research.
