Newly appointed Korean ambassador to Slovenia visited the EARL

On 25 January 2018, the Ambassador of Korea, H.E. Mr Dong-ik Shin was on a formal visit to Slovenia, and on that occasion, the Korean delegation also visited the EARL. It was welcomed by Prof.  Monika Kalin-Golob, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Roman Kuhar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and the EARL Management Board representatives.

Prof. Monika Kalin-Golob, Prof. Roman Kuhar,Mirjam Kotar, MSc, the Chief Co-ordinator of the EARL and Prof. Nataša Vampelj Suhadolnik, Head of the Department of Asian Studies at the Faculty of Arts, shared with guest their thoughts on the EARL and its mission, and the important role that Korea plays within EARL. East Asia Resource Library was presented as an excellent example of how vibrant and successful the co-operation between institutions and scholars can be. They all expressed sincerest gratitude to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for the ongoing support in all activities, related to the development of either the Korean studies at the Department of Asian Studies or the EARL. Ms. Kotar revealed that in the next five years EARL board envisages the EARL to grow from a resource centre into a focal point for the wider region, notably the Western Balkans, to co-ordinate research and teaching on Korea, and more widely on the East Asian region.

The Ambassador of Korea to Slovenia, H.E. Mr Dong-ik Shin acknowledged his affirmative views on research centres such as EARL and admiration for the goals pursued by the EARL. He praised the effort of all who contribute to EARL’s mission, and assured further support of the Korean Embassy to the EARL.
