An event on addressing Euroscepticism and Illiberalism in the EU took place on Friday 6 May at the FDV as part of Europe Week. The event began with a workshop in which students and other participants after the introductory presentation of the project (Dimitar Nikolovski-Eurothink) and the conceptual framework (Marko Lovec-FDV UL) together with visiting international experts identified (regional) Eurosceptic and illiberal narratives and tried to develop counter narratives. In the second part, Benedetta Carlotti (Scuola Normale Superiore-SNS) introduced more detailed findings of focus groups among ‘users’ of Eurosceptic and Iliberal narratives in Italy.

The students then presented the results from previous workshops. Manuela Caiani (SNS), Adam Balcer (East European Colleague-Wroclaw), Ljupčo Petkovski (Eurothink) and Faris Kočan (FDV UL) spoke at the panel about the current state of Euroscepticism and illiberalism in Europe after the war in Ukraine and elections in countries in the region. Finally, Marko Hočevar (FDV UL), who is currently working on projects in the field of political radicalism, presented his views as a commentator. An open discussion followed.

The event was attended by about 20 researchers from abroad and about 20 researchers and students from FDV UL. The event took place within the project Tackling illiberalism and Euroscepticism from below, supported by the EU program Europe for Citizens in cooperation with UL-FDV (Marko Lovec and Faris Kočan).
