Academia Aestiva Internationalis Summer School started on Monday, 3 July 2017, at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Professor dr. Zlatko Šabič welcomed the participants of this year’s youth conference, together with Kaja Primorac, the Summer School’s Executive Director, and Mr Dejan Savič from Greenpeace. The international youth conference is held under the honourable patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.
The first lecture was delivered by dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, addressing the many aspects of climate change, and impressing the participants by her profound knowledge about the issue. This year’s Summer School will create a dynamic environment, allowing the participants to engage with experts from various fields. They will be faced with challenges and solutions for a more ecological, cleaner, and greener future.
During the Summer School numerous environmental issues will be touched upon, including international environmental law, EU environmental law, and the new development agenda with its environmental component. Additionally, topics as environmental refugees and migrants, global governance, and international environmental regimes will be discussed, together with renewable energy, the concept of ‘circle economy’, and shift from ‘green’ to ‘blue’ economy. The Summer School will also include a visit to Škocjan Caves, and addressing certain specific topics: the third generation of human rights, environmental principles of fisheries, as well as pollution and waste management in space.
