SLOVENIAN POLITICAL SCIENCE DAY 2024
We cordially invite you to the conference Understanding the Interregnum: World After Neoliberal Hegemony?, which will be held on December 3, 2024 at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Slovenian Political Science Day, organized by the Slovenian Political Science Association and the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences, will take place this year on December 3, 2023, in Ljubljana at the Faculty of Social Sciences. In the wake of global transformations and shifts in the political, social and economic arenas, we stand at a critical jucture: “The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear” to echo Antonio Gramsci.
At this year's conference, we will thus discuss the period of the crisis in the “rules based international order”, crisis of the core tenants of the liberal democracy, period which is still very much influenced by the financial crisis of 2008, climate crisis, in the post-pandemic circumstances, in which we are witnessing the increasing rise of the populist politics, growing nationalism and illiberalism, and fractures in international institutions. It is increasingly more clear - the rot is coming from inside, while no alternative political, economic or social model(s) with universal appeal are emerging. In the interregnum, symptoms of the crisis intensify, dominant norms are challenged, new social forces emerge. It is increasingly clear that the era of neoliberal hegemony has come to an end, a new order is being created, but it is still not fully completed.
