On Wednesday, 29 November 2017, the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted the event celebrating 25th Anniversary of Indonesia - Slovenia Bilateral Relations, co-organised by the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Slovenia.
Guests were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Ms Monika Kalin Golob, who introduced the Faculty and stressed the importance of co-operation between the two friendly countries in the field of higher education and research. To this end, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Padjadjaran, Dr. Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata, and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana signed the Memorandum of Agreement.
Introductory speech was delivered by Mr. Matej Marn, Director General of the Directorate for Common Foreign and Security Policy. The keynote speaker was Indonesian Ambassador, Dr Darmansjah Djumala, who touched upon the past bilateral relations between Slovenia and Indonesia, underlined huge potential for cooperation that lies ahead and expressed its conviction that the relations between our two countries will continue to flourish.
Within the Seminar on ”Indonesia-Slovenia Relations in the European Union and Asia-Pacific Geopolitical Context”, guest speakers were Dr. Anton Bebler, Professor Emeritus, from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, and Dr. Arfin Sudirman, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Padjadjaran.
Bilateral economic relations and potential for their further enhancement were discussed by Mr. Nurul Ichwan from the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, and Dr. Zoran Stamatovski from SPIRIT Slovenia.
During the event a business forum and a joint exhibition of typical Indonesian and Slovenian handcrafts, instruments, and books were held. The Indonesian representatives visited also the East Asian Recourse Library (EARL), a joint project of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, and declared their interest in cooperation with EARL.
